New Gear, Software & Skills

So I’ve been recently learning DaVinci Resolve Studio, assisted with my logickeyboard TITAN Keyboard.

Last month I picked up a DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro Adventure Combo, along with additional filters, a hard case, some other accessories like tripod stands and a magnetic mount.

DJI Osmo Action (Gen 1)

  • Limited to 8-Bit Color Gamut
  • Washed-out low light - Video gets very blurry and grainy as soon as the sun goes down.
  • Basic slow motion - Maxes out at standard 4K at 60 frames per second.
  • Short battery - Lasts around 1 to 1.5 hours before needing a swap.
  • Basic stabilization - Smoothes out bumps but cannot keep the video level if the camera tilts heavily.

DJI Osmo Action 5 Pro

  • Full 10-Bit Color Gamut Support
  • Excellent low light - Uses a much larger sensor and AI processing to shoot clean video at night.
  • Ultra-smooth slow motion - Shoots at 4K at 120 frames per second for ultra-fluid slow-mo.
  • Massive battery - Lasts up to 4 hours on a single charge.
  • Horizon locking - Keeps the footage perfectly level even if the camera flips completely upside down.

My goal is to get out of the house, be active 😅, travel a bit, film, edit, grade & upload stock footage (Rec709 graded) to Pexels & other stock footage websites, hopefully get some footage good enough to sell on Pond5 or i might setup a YouTube channel dedicated to upload my stock footage, as it might give me more revenue.

I already uploaded a video I filmed, while I was at the Taupo Harbourmaster for a few hours one morning, I filmed that on my DJI Osmo Action (Gen 1) camera, at 4K30 - sadly it doesn’t have a color grading profile like D-LOG M, it uses D-Cinelike which is very close to Rec.709 but requires some adjustment and doesn’t have alot of support, so I may have to generate my own LUTs. But I plan to use it as a secondary camera or backup along side my Osmo Action 5 Pro.

I may record media side by side, generate a LUT to match, maybe release it on github for the DJI Osmo Action (Gen1), I’m not sure. But its a 8-bit Camera, so who knows.

I may also have a side project that could start up, editing footage where I may end up having a small amount of side income, hopefully. That would be an exciting thing to get into, it would get me out of the house, going to locations, filming & such.

I also want to record stuff, capture memories with my new partner.
